Which Club Med resort in Japan is best for your next ski vacation?
Jan 8, 2025
Club Med has mastered the art of all-inclusive family vacations and the offerings in Japan for your next ski holiday are second to none. With all accommodation, meals, lessons, childcare, lift passes, open bar and entertainment included with every stay, the hardest part is deciding which ski resort is the best fit for your family!
We've done the hard work for you and compared the Club Med ski resorts in Japan; Tomamu, Sahoro, Kiroro Grand and Kiroro Peak. Each offers that fantastic all-inclusive stay, but differ when it comes to on-site amenities, extra activities, ski terrain and access.
Club Med Tomamu
The largest of the Club Med offerings in Hokkaido, Tomamu is perfect for those who seek a big and bustling resort area, interacting with other families, plenty of activities on and off the snow for the family, and easy access from the airport. Opening in 2017, the hotel boast over 341 room options including interconnecting. With almost 40% of the terrain suitable for beginners, Club Med Tomamu caters best to first-timers, young and large families. The resort itself has great facilities, and there are two large hotel chains located at the base.

Club Med Sahoro
The first snow-specific Club Med in Hokkaido (opening in 1987), Sahoro is a classic ski boutique hotel experience, ideal for those seeking a more laid-back atmosphere. Being the only major hotel in the area, it feels more of an exclusive resort (hello no lift lines!) compared to Club Med Tomamu. Offering 208 room options (no interconnecting), it is best suited to small families, multi-generational visitors, and couples. Renovated in 2019, it has a fresh new look. Skiing-wise, it caters well to intermediate and advanced skiers, alongside beginners, and over 210 hectares of terrain (largest Club Med ski area).

Club Med Kiroro Grand
Opening in December 2023, Club Med Kiroro Grand is the new kid on the block. It's a huge hotel with plenty of room options to choose from (266 rooms), including suites for larger families. No interconnecting rooms available. It is the only Club Med resort in Hokkaido with a traditional Japanese onsen on-site for guests to use. Ideal for families with kids of all ages and couples. The hotel itself is located just off the main resort area, a short gondola ride up (but with ski-in access). Shuttles are also available up to the main Kiroro base.

Club Med Kiroro Peak
Also one of Kiroro's newest offerings, Kiroro Peak opened in December 2022. It is a more 'upscale' and contemporary resort option than Kiroro Grand, ideal for solo skiers, couples and families with older childen. Note - Kiroro Peak has a minimum age of 12 years. Located right at the main base area of Kiroro ski resort, the ski access is fantastic. There are no kids facilities at Kiroro Peak and being a more boutique hotel (126 rooms, none interconnecting) options are limited in terms of dining/bars, but it makes the resort feel more exclusive for guests. Skiing at Kiroro is fantastic for advanced skiers, and intermediates are well catered for. For beginners, Tomamu or Sahoro are a better fit.
