SCOUT REVIEW

Opening only in December 2022, Kiroro Peak is the newest offering of Club Med ski resorts in Hokkaido. Catering to both families with older children or teens, and couples (minimum age at Kiroro Peak is 12 years), the resort boasts a more 'elevated' stay, with contemporary stying (avant-garde) and the right level of high-end comfort.

As pointed out above, this particular Club Med resort is only for those 12+ years - and the bold, innovative and chic design throughout certainly reflects this (compared to the more whimsical 'enchanted garden' theme of Kiroro Grand). The main design is based on a modern mix of traditional Japanese influences with westernised fashion and art. You can expect a surprisingly calming blend of mountainous alpine timbers, bespoke Japanese fabrics, and a splash of checkered tartan in each of the rooms. Sounds unique, but certainly gives an overall warm and ultra cosy space for families.

Kiroro Peak is more of a 'boutique' Club Med, with only 126 rooms on offer - Superior, Deluxe and larger Suites. The Superior Rooms are the most popular, offering king/twin bedding, plus interconnecting options with their Junior Family Superior Rooms (sleeping 3) that provide enough space for a family of 6. Some rooms feature an additional tatami space, ideal for the extra child or adult. Deluxe Rooms take a step up with a half-wall separating living from bedroom, while Suite rooms are perfect for larger families who just need the space, a spacious lounge area and dining table, and deluxe bathrooms.

Thanks to its smaller layout, Club Med Kiroro Peak only offers the one main international restaurant (Otaru) with two 'themed zones (Asian Zone and Western Zone) and one main bar (The View Bar). However, guests can pre-book and head down to sister hotel, Kiroro Grand, and enjoy any one of their 3 speciality restaurants (The Ebisu (sushi), The Kaen (yakiniku) and The Ogon (oriental). Couples will love the nighttime atmosphere at The View Bar; a modern and fun space for stage performances, and local drinks.

In terms of entertainment (for those who KNOW the Club Med experience), Club Med Kiroro Peak features a Taiko - a high energy performance art that combines music (traditional drums), dance, martial arts, athletics, and culture. Alongside this, there a live touring band offering performances 1-2 times a week, Glow Parties, ice sculptures and ice bars, and other winter festivities (mulled wine, sugar applies, marshmellows).

Outside of skiing, you can enjoy an array of activities such as fitness programs (yoga, pilates, etc), spa and wellness (massage, sauna), snow trekking, aqua fitness and indoor ofuro bath. Kiroro Peak does not have an onsen, however, guests can make use of the indoor and outdoor ofuro bath and traditional onsen, rotenburo, indoor pool, and additional spa amenities at Kiroro Grand. If you're wanting to explore further afield, a day trip to nearby town of Otaru is a must - cute pokey coastal town known for its handblown glass, canal, shopping streets and distilleries.
