SCOUT REVIEW
Built by Kenzo Tange, a renowned Japanese architect, the modern, spaceship style Rurikura Hotel is a sight to behold. It’s in an excellent location, right across from the Zao Ropeway.
Rurikura hotel has 40 renovated rooms ranging from twin rooms to deluxe. Scout’s favorite would be the spacious deluxe rooms located on the top floor of the hotel. The Japanese/Western rooms are also very lovely and spacious.
The hotel has a restaurant where you can have a delicious breakfast buffet spread of Japanese, Chinese and Western dishes while enjoying the views of the ski slopes and the Zao Onsen village through its big picture windows. If you are craving for some French cuisine, the restaurant also serves French dishes for dinner. The lobby bar serves discounted drinks during its daily happy hour.
Rurikura Hotel has other great facilities such as natural onsen, a spa and massage room, ski rental shop, drying room and a Karaoke room.

About Zao Onsen
Zao Onsen ski resort is a Scout favorite and a lesser-known gem. It has a charming, traditional village, a great selection of hotels, natural onsen hot springs and a vast ski resort featuring its famed snow monsters. If you’re looking to get away from all the Westerners, experience something rich in culture combined with some great skiing, then Zao Onsen makes a great choice.
