SCOUT REVIEW
The Olympic Hotel in Shiga Kogen is a 2-star hotel that is just 10 meters from the ski slopes. The hotel is done in a (relatively) modern style both in its exterior and interiors. It has a warm and friendly ambiance, and the staff are very attentive although most of them cannot speak English.
The hotel has a total of 48 rooms, nine of which are done in western style. The Japanese style rooms are bigger but some of them do not have showers so you’ll have to use the onsen. All the rooms are equipped with basic amenities. The western style rooms do have showers but six of them are really small. Scout recommends that you choose the bigger rooms so you can have a more comfortable stay. All the rooms are very well-maintained and clean.
The hotel has a restaurant serving breakfast and dinner buffets including Japanese, Western or Chinese dishes. During the weekends, they serve steak and tempura! The hotel has an Izakaya – a relaxed, traditional Japanese bar where they serve food. If you would rather have your drinks in a western bar, the hotel’s Chappy Choco bar is the right bar for you although it opens late in the evening.
The hotel has a nicely decorated onsen where you can have a warm bath and relax after a day of skiing. Other facilities include a ski rental shop, convenience store and lockers.
The Olympic hotel is a great choice especially if you are not looking for luxurious facilities and amenities. It has an excellent location, clean rooms, excellent food and attentive staff.
Who should stay here
The hotel will appeal to skiers who want to be just a walk away from the ski slopes and are looking for not so pricey accommodations.
Location
The Olympic hotel is right in the heart of Ichinose Village and across the ski slopes. The bus stop from Nagano is about a 50 meter walk down the hill.
