SCOUT REVIEW
ALP Myoko sits in one of the best ski positions in Myoko Kogen—right on the slopes at Akakura Onsen. This is genuine ski-in ski-out territory, where you can clip in at the front door and glide straight to the lifts. For powder-enthusiasts, that convenience alone makes ALP Myoko a standout choice.
The hotel blends traditional Japanese ryokan elements with a more contemporary alpine style. Renovations in recent years have modernized the Western rooms, onsen, and dining spaces, while still keeping a local, understated feel. Rooms range from tatami-style Japanese layouts with futons to updated Western twin rooms, plus a larger penthouse option for groups. Most rooms overlook the ski runs, which adds to the alpine atmosphere. The Western Twin Rooms are compact to say the least, and lack hanging space, so we'd recommend the larger Japanese Tatami rooms.
One of the highlights is the onsen setup. The indoor and outdoor baths use natural hot spring water and are positioned to overlook the snow-covered slopes—ideal after a long day chasing Japow. It’s a key part of the ALP Myoko experience and a major draw for guests.
Dining leans toward Japanese-French fusion, offering a more elevated take than typical ski lodge fare. Breakfast is included, though some guests note it’s on the lighter side. The local hospitality is friendlt and helpful, though the hotel operates with a fairly hands-off style typical of smaller boutique properties.
Overall, ALP Myoko is less about full-service luxury and more about location, character, and a relaxed ski-focused stay. It makes an ideal boutique base for serious skiers and families who aren't seeking all the bells and whistles.
Who should stay here
Best for intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders who prioritise ski-in ski-out access and a quieter, boutique atmosphere over full-service resort facilities. Great for couples or small groups.
Location
Alp Myoko is perched directly on the slopes above Akakura Onsen village, offering ski-in ski-out access to both Akakura Onsen and Akakura Kanko resorts. The main village street is about a 5-minute walk away for restaurants and nightlife. The hotel also offers complimentary pickup from Myoko Kogen Station, making access relatively straightforward without a car.

About Myoko Kogen
Myoko Kogen combines so many excellent elements into one package; several great ski resorts, endless powder snow, relatively thin crowds, plenty of (permitted) tree skiing, a superb ski school, a friendly, traditional Japanese town, a range of accommodation options and easy access. It’s not surprising then that Myoko’s popularity has soared over the past few years.
