Ice-Skating
What is a winter ski vacation without a little time on the ice? Sun Peaks is lucky to be home to an NHL sizes outdoor ice skating rink, perfect for some afternoon fun on the skates, or to try out the local sport. Take advantage of the Family Fun Nights hosted by the resort each Tuesday with games, music, and hot chocolate to keep the hands warm (plus kids 12 and under skate for free!). Only a short walk from the village, the rink is every day of the season (weather dependant) and with skate and stick rentals on site, all you need to do is show up!

Tubing
If you’re looking for a bit of an adrenaline rush (or a spot for the kids to expel that excess energy), the Tube Park is the place to be. Unlike any other lift accessed tube park, Tube Time offers two curving lanes for maximum excitement, plus there’s even a fire pit for the kids stay warm between laps. A hit amongst all ages, tubes are provided and tickets can be purchase at Guest Services (Kids 5 and under ride free!). Open daily from 12:00pm to 7:00pm throughout the season.

Dog Sledding
Popular among the kids, these exhilarating dog sled adventures offer an unforgettable experience. Learn everything you need to know about dog sledding (including meeting the pups themselves!), before heading out for a 1.5 hour guided tour through the stunning Sun Peaks backcountry. All sleds are guided, but guests may also be given the opportunity to drive the sled. Be sure to book well in advance as these tours tend to sell out quickly!

Nordic Skiing
If you’re a family of explorers, keen to adventure beyond the resort base area, cross country skiing at Sun Peaks is a must. With over 37 kilometres of impeccably groomed trails (and plenty of that light and dry powder snow), families can venture up the Morrissey Express and take in the breathtaking views, or take a trek through the seemingly endless surrounding forests. Multiple huts are scattered throughout the trails to stay warm. The Nordic Centre is open daily, where you can drop in and talk to the team, rent some Nordic skis, and swap stories with fellow cross country enthusiasts.

Sleigh Rides
There’s something truly magical about a horse drawn sleigh ride through the snow, with the unmistakable clatter of hooves and the ringing of sleigh bells. Take in the sights of Sun Peaks resort and surrounding areas as the sleigh winds through the village and into the open snow fields, offering fantastic views of the valley and mountains. Tours run for approx. 40 minutes, and operate throughout the day, including memorable sunset and evening tours. Greet the horses, snap some photos, and settle in under the blankets for a fantastic family experience.

Local Day Trips
Sun Peaks is a fantastic home base for a variety of day tours, perfect for down days with the family. Join a local guide for a uniquely Canadian ice-fishing experience on one of the many mountain lakes surrounding the resort and try your luck at catching wild Rainbow Trout. Thrill-seekers can head into the backcountry on a snowmobiling tour, exploring the huge variety of trails, frozen lakes, and wide open meadows.
