Scout loves
- Newly refurbished rooms that incorporate all the great elements of the Westin chain (yes, those Heavenly beds are indeed heavenly)
- Great location for those wanting to be as close as possible to the more advanced skiing slopes
- The lobby area is awash with the scent of “White Tea” (which is a lot nicer than it sounds)
- Good gym facilities for those not exerting enough energy on the slopes
SCOUT REVIEW
Formerly known as The Tower, The Westin Rusutsu Resort is one of two hotels at Rusutsu Ski Resort and has undergone a large revamp following the changeover of management to Starwood Hotels in 2016. It’s a welcome change from a formerly dated style – it’s now a high-end, luxury option just a short chairlift ride from the ski slopes of Rusutsu’s East Mountain and Mt Isola. The Westin is also connected by monorail (also newly re-built) to the main resort base at West Mountain and all the facilities of the Rusutsu Resort Hotel & Convention.
The lobby area has been completely renovated and rooms have received a total overhaul. Thankfully the rooms are still huge, with the smallest traditional room starting at 76sqm. There are a variety of room types with some of the larger family suites sleeping up to seven people. All of them have a living area, however there are no kitchens.
There are various benefits that come with a stay at The Westin Rusustu, including a new gym area, outdoor hot spring, spa services, SuperFoods menu and two restaurants. Additionally, if you are an advanced or intermediate skiier most of your skiing will be done on this side of the resort, so this hotel has quicker and easier acccess compred to the Resort Hotel.
With the overhaul, it’s not surprising that prices have also increased significantly at The Westin, making it at the top end of the scale when it comes to ski resort hotel prices for Japan.
Who should stay here
