Scout Review

Perched up in a bowl deep in the Remarkables mountain range, just outside of Queenstown, this is a great ski resort for all levels. It also provides some of the most breathtaking views of any of the resorts in New Zealand.

We love the secluded first timer area that allows little shredders to gain their confidence without being bombarded by agressive skiers. There's also some good terrain for them to gradually progress to, with an older quad and two new 6 pack express chairs accessing some awesome beginner and intermediate terrain. The new Sugar Bowl Express is a welcome addition to replace the slow old triple chair and terrain park junkies will love it. The terrain park features up here are pretty awesome. 

Advanced skiers will also find plenty of terrain at Remarkables and when there are good conditions the black runs down the front face can be fantastic, long powder runs. They take you to a bus stop which will bring you back to the main resort area. There's also plenty of good runs off Shadow basin quad and if you do a few short hikes you can get access to even more great terrain. Additionally, if you have backcountry gear and knowledge there are some good hikes out into the back bowls.

There is no on-mountain accommodation at The Remarkables. Nearby Queenstown has many lodging options.

Getting There and Around

The Remarkables is about a 45-minute drive from Queenstown up a dirt, steep, dusty and dangerous (there are no guardrails) road, especially when it becomes corrugated or snowy. Chains must be carried. The car park can become muddy by the end of the day. There are several companies offering shuttle buses from downtown Queenstown.

When To Go

The season runs from late June to early October.
