SCOUT REVIEW
As one of the newer ski hotels in Niseko, Setsu is certainly a standout among the sea of luxury hotels in Hirafu. With so many Western-style, full-service luxury hotels on offer in Niseko, it can feel a little copy-paste; however Setsu brings a fresh new contemporary Japanese offering to the table, with a focus on an elevated culinary and wellness experience.
With over 190 luxury rooms and suites on offer, there are layout and bedding options for families of all shapes and sizes. Many of the units feature additional tatami spaces - Scout absolutely loves these, as they're perfect sleeping spaces for those 'extra' family members (hello families of 5!), or just for additional lounge areas to relax in. Note, some units feature sliding doors for privacy while others are door-less (we can request specific floor plans to suit your needs). The decor is elegant; with Japanese-inspired furnishings, and contemporary luxuries throughout, but with the Western comfort a lot of skiers enjoy. Some of the larger suites boast a private onsen. Views vary between each suites - VIllage, Courtyard, Annupuri (ski resort) or Mt Yotei - but you can choose your preferred view upon booking.
Home to the widest selection of dining options in Hirafu, Setsu boasts 6 restaurants, each showcasing some of Hokkaido's best seasonal produce. Start your day off with breakfast at méi-mélo (included in your stay at Setsu) and a hearty Sapporo roasted coffee. For a mid-ski break, AFURI is out go-to for delicious handmade ramen, with matching Mt Yotei views. Setsu also offers a truly exceptional Ocean-to-Table Kaiseki Experience at Sushi Kato INORI, as well as traditional omakase dining at Tempura Araki (sister restaurant to Sapporo's two-Michelin star offering). Luke's Alpine Club is perfect for those seeking that classic European eatery - with a huge selection of delicious seafood offerings. For a touch of timeless luxury (and hint of romance), Park90 offers the perfect spot to wine down at the end of the day with a good glass of wine.
Setsu often claims it provides a 'wellness experience' for its guests - and it's onsite onsen and facilities truly hit the mark. The 750sqm spa area is one of the largest in Hirafu, designed around a series of indoor and outdoor hot spring baths, cold plunge pool, and treatment rooms at Rikka Spa. Guests can even book a private onsen, complete with lounge and changing facilities. Setsu also boasts a full gym to stay fit off the slopes, and a Yoga Studio, with a variety of classes throughout the season. For the littlest ones, Setsu also offers a super cute kids playroom, with a range of equipment and activities (open 24 hours).
While Setsu is not a ski-in ski-out hotel, it does offer quick and easy access to the slopes. The skier shuttle picks up directly out the front of the ski locker room (on a continuous loop), and drops off at the Hirafu Gondola Base area, making it one of the most direct routes for families needing ski school or resort facilities. There is a Rhythm rental store on-site for added convenience. For those needing to head to Hanazono, the resort shuttle departs from the Setsu Lobby, and the Niseko United Ski Shuttler bus stop is only a few minutes walk from the hotel.
At Setsu, you can expect exceptional hospitality by the on-site team. The concierge can assist with anything you need - from restaurant reservations and calling a taxi, to grocery delivery, and local resort transfers. For those seeking a more elevated stay and unbeatable service, Setsu hits the mark.
Who should stay here
Families who need some additional space to spread out. Couples and solo skiers who enjoy elevated luxury and fantastic on-site facilities.
Location
Setsu is located in Upper Hirafu, approximately 10 minutes walk to the Hirafu Gondola Base / 5 minutes walk to the Ace Family Chairlift. The hotel provides an efficient skier shuttle to the Dot.Base and Hirafu Gondola Base for guests (door to door 3 minute ride). Setsu is well located in Hirafu, close to local restaurants and shops, the resort shuttle, and resort facilities.
