SCOUT REVIEW

Nira Alpina is a fantastic boutique hotel in the St Moritz area that opened in November of 2011. It is a stunning contemporary design that has a well-and-truly alpine feel and is very comfortable. Far from the glitzy 5-star hotels in St Moritz, Nira Alpina is warm, cozy, and relaxed. Scout loves the great use of natural material such as wood and stone throughout and the big windows everywhere, which take in the views from the valley below and the mountains above.

Every room faces a view, however, some of them do face the Corvatsch cable car (mainly from the small Mountain View rooms). Scout thinks the valley views are superior to the mountain views. All the other larger rooms and the suites have a garden terrace or balcony and views of the valley. All of the rooms have rain showers, the larger rooms have bathtubs. Materials used in the rooms include Italian stone, lots of suede, and fabrics in earthy tones, so they feel warm and comfortable. Rooms facing the valley have big, floor to ceiling windows, and they take in the outdoor scenery and all the light.

There are three restaurants, two bars and a bakery at Nira Alpina. We love Trattoria, with its Italian dishes and authentic stubli surroundings. But without a doubt, our favorite part of this hotel would be the après ski hut called, Pichalain, which is a tiny wooden hut built with Swiss timber taken from Silver Fir trees. There's saw dust on the floors and it only has seating for up to 16 people, so get in there early in the afternoons for fantastic hot wine and some great après, situated right in front of the hotel.

The Nira Alpina spa area features a hot tub, steam room, sauna, aroma therapy room, and you can have a view of the ski slopes from the hot tub. There's also beauty treatments at the massage parlor, as well as facials, manicures, pedicures, and waxing.

This is great hotel for families. There's a Kid's Club which offers professional childcare for children age 3 and above, between 3pm and 9pm, on request and depending on availability. This Kid's Club has tons of games, a library, and lots of different entertainment for children. This is offered as a service to the guests, and all the restaurants feature a wide variety of child friendly options.

The hotel has a small library, with huge, plush, leather couches and lots of natural light. There are books you can borrow, and a computer with internet connection which you can use.

Nira Alpina offers a free pick up and drop off at St Moritz train station, and getting to St. Moritz is relativley easy through public transport. The hotel provides complimentary transfer to and from St Moritz, but this is subject to availability.  There's a public bus every 20 minutes and it's free. It goes to Silvaplana and from there you can take another bus to Engadin, or you can go onto St Moritz. If you are wanting to go in and out of St Moritz Dorf frequently, we would recommend having a car. The distance to St Moritz is too far to walk.
