Monstrous Expansion Unveiled at Panorama Mountain Resort
Dec 9, 2020
At a time where resort acquisitions and takeovers are the going trend within the ski industry, Panorama Mountain Resort has remained proudly independent and defiant. After being named North American Resort of the Year at the 2016 World Snow Awards, Panorama has cemented the resort’s place among world’s best ski destinations by undertaking a mammoth expansion of their terrain, unlocking some of the best advanced skiing in BC.
You could definitely describe this new jaw-dropping terrain, aptly named “Where the Wild Things Are”, as monstrous. Boasting 4 exceptional double-black lines, with fear-inducing names like ‘The Monster’, ‘Get Out!’, ‘Spectre’, and ‘Ridgeback’, the resort offers 128 acres of some of the most wild, challenging, and sometimes scary terrain for expert skiers and snowboarders to explore. Those who are familiar with Panorama reminisce of powder-filled days among Taynton Bowl, famous for its hike-to ‘steep and deep’ terrain. This new in-bounds heli-ski-esque area lies adjacent to Taynton, and bumps the resort total vertical up to over 4265 feet, ranking it among the Top 3 in Canada. Best of all, it’s virtually the incredible BC backcountry we dream to ski within a patrolled, in-bounds, and (relatively) easily accessed resort area.
The terrain expansion was accessed by a custom built, 13 passenger snowcat. The Monster X, is equipped with plush seating and a pumping sound system and offers a journey up that’s just as much fun as the descent that follows. The best part was the price... almost too good to be true at just $15 a ride, or even cheaper for multiple rides.
The unveiling of the new terrain this season is only the first phase of a mammoth 500 acres expansion plan to make the resort even bigger and better (and more badass). Slay some monsters and take on epic leg burning descents (up to a exhilarating 6.5 km long), soft powdery pillows, and steep drops in the new ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ this season at Panorama.
