SCOUT REVIEW
Independence Square Hotel, often referred to by locals as “The Indy,” is a historic boutique property located in the very center of downtown Aspen. The hotel is housed in one of the town’s most iconic late-19th-century buildings, and it retains its classic charm while offering comfortable, modern accommodations. Guests looking for a character-rich stay in the heart of Aspen will love this property.
The hotel offers a variety of room types, from compact but stylish guest rooms to suites, each with a mix of contemporary furnishings and heritage details. While rooms are smaller than at condo-style accommodations in Snowmass, they more than make up for it with location and atmosphere. The hotel also serves a complimentary breakfast — a nice perk before heading out for a day of skiing.
One of the Independence Square Hotel’s standout features is its rooftop hot tub, where guests can soak while looking out over downtown Aspen and the surrounding peaks. There’s also a small lobby lounge, but no on-site restaurant or bar — not that you need one, given that Aspen’s dining, shopping, and après-ski options are literally right outside the front door.
Skiers won’t have ski-in ski-out convenience here, but Aspen Mountain’s Silver Queen Gondola is just a short walk away, and free shuttle buses to Snowmass, Buttermilk, and Aspen Highlands stop nearby. This makes it a fantastic base for travelers who want to explore all four Aspen Snowmass resorts while staying in the heart of Aspen’s vibrant town life.
Who should stay here
Couples, solo travelers, and groups of friends who want a boutique, central Aspen experience with historic charm, easy dining access, and shuttle connections to all Aspen Snowmass resorts.
