- Guests can access the onsen facilities at the Hakuba Springs hotel.
- The breakfasts include freshly cooked eggs, any way.
- The bar and restaurant are popular, and great for après or a hearty dinner.
Scout tips
- While the family rooms are generously sized, once you get four people with ski gear in there it can be a bit of a squeeze.
- The rooms are simple and have quaint European-style wooden furnishings.
- Slope-facing rooms can be noisy when the snow making machines are operating.
- There is a massage room in the basement.
- It does get booked out quickly so get in early!
SCOUT REVIEW
If you’re a skier or boarder who wants to stay as close as possible to the slopes, Marillen Hotel in Hakuba is for you.
Not only is it one of the best located hotels in Happo-one (it’s one of the only truly ski-in ski-out hotels in the area), it’s also close to restaurants, bars and shops. But beyond its amazing location, there are plenty of other great reasons to stay at the Marillen.
For starters, we love the Austrian theme. From the restaurant serving German Beer on tap, Glühwein, pretzels, cheese fondue and schnitzels, through to the quaint wooden furniture in the rooms, there’s a definite European charm. And when you add that to the friendly hospitality of the Japanese managers, then it’s a great combination.
The bar is a great place to hang out for apres, serving up hearty apres snacks and great drinks. It often has live music and a vibrant atmosphere.
There are just 15 rooms at Hotel Marillen, and all are either twin/double, triple or quad share. All of them have Western-style mattresses, TVs and ensuite bathrooms.
It should be noted that the Marillen isn’t what you’d call luxurious – the rooms are pretty simple and the hotel doesn’t have many extra facilities. You do pay a premium for the fantastic location, and all-in-all it makes a great choice.
Who should stay here
Those who are willing to pay a premium to be located right on the slopes, yet also those who want to be close to the action in Happo Village.
