Scout loves
- Some of the expensive views in all of Courchevel at three star hotel prices.
- You can ride the gondola to get between the hotel and La Croisette.
- It is welcoming, comfortable and convenient for the slopes.
- An emphasis on sustainability.
Scout tips
- Two of the floors don't have elevator access, only stairs.
- The gondola outside runs from 9am to 8pm, and it's free from 5pm to 8pm, so if you do want to go down to La Croisette, the main ski base of Courchevel 1850, it's pretty easy to get down there for diner and its only a small taxi fare to get back, a five minutes drive from La Croisette to New Solarium.
SCOUT REVIEW
Hotel Le New Solarium strikes the perfect balance between contemporary style, yet remains unaffected and relaxed – not something that’s very common in glitzy Courchevel! When you walk into the lobby area, you instantly feel calm. It doesn't have any pretension to it, but is clearly up-to-date. The hotel was built originally in 1958, and every year there have been significant upgrades to keep it comfortable and new. There's lots of cozy and open common living areas near the lobby, where guests can sit back and chat about the ski day and have a few drinks, and a casual dining area with great mountain views.
There are 70 rooms in this hotel which has an emphasis on sustainable management and environment; it conserves its use of electricity and water, and provides and recommends green label products. The rooms are comfortable and some rooms on lower floors have beautiful views of woods and snow. Those on the higher floors have great views of the mountains
While this is perfect for young couples, we can also see families really enjoying it here, particularly because of the different common areas. New Solarium is just a few steps from the slopes, and is ski-in, ski-out. You can come back from the slopes for lunch and enjoy the huge sun deck during or after skiing. Kids will enjoy the pool area, they have quite a large indoor pool.
The wellness facilities at this hotel are good, (they're not luxurious). There's a big indoor pool, steam room, sauna, and a ski shop with ski rentals on-site.
Who should stay here
Le New Solarium is for young families and couples and people wishing to avoid glitz and glamour. There are many comfortable common areas to idle, and the hotel is accommodating towards children.
Location
Located right on the slopes of Jardin Alpin, Le New Solarium has direct access to the slopes, the Jardin Alpin gondola is right next to the hotel and guests get views of the forests, mountains and a priceless downhill view of Courchevel. La Croisette can be accessed by the gondola (free between 5pm-8pm) or it’s a short taxi ride.
