SCOUT REVIEW
In a resort that has seen many hotels revamped to modern mountain or urban styles, it’s wonderful to come across a hotel that is quite the opposite. The four star Hotel de La Loze in Courchevel is a very cute, homely, romantic, Austrian style hotel, located right in the heart of Courchevel, just meters from the ski base area and slopes. The hotel's location is convenient and some of the rooms have incredible views of the piste.
The hotel is one of the original hotels in Courchevel, owned by the Fenestraz family, one of the pioneers of the resort. On first entering the hotel, you are welcomed by staff wearing traditional Austrian uniforms and ushered into the homely living area which has grandfather sofa chairs and log fire to relax by. Here, they serve a selection of French wines, teas, pastries and chocolates every afternoon.
There are 28 rooms and 15 suites in Hotel de La Loze, whose style could be described as quaint and enchanting. Some may feel that it is a little out of date but the beautiful paintings on the walls and the rustic farmhouse furniture add to the charm and sense of history to the place.
Rooms face south, east or north. The lower level rooms don't have much of a view, but many other rooms have spectacular sights of the slopes. The south side rooms are those with views of the slopes, and get the warmth and light of the sun. The east rooms have valley views, and are probably some of the best in Scout's opinion. The north rooms have views of streets and buildings, but they're quiet and have lower rates. The rooms are adorned in the traditional farmhouse style. It is worth mentioning that the bathrooms are big and newly renovated.
There are a few additional facilities at Hotel de La Loze, including a sauna and a steam room or hammam. There's also a small ski shop for rental and where guests can leave their skis. The option here is for bed and breakfast only since there is no restaurant, however with all of Courchevel’s restaurants at your doorstep it’s not a problem. On top of this the beautiful afternoon tea that is served daily and would be quite filling for hungry skiers.
Who should stay here
Hotel de la Loze is perfect for couples, not necessarily young families but certainly families with older children would be fine here. We see this as a great place for couples, who want a convenient location to the slopes and village, and love the idea of the charm and rustic feel of the hotel.
