Scout tips
- The Premier rooms have a view of the Wadano forest so they’re our favourite choice.
- If you’re travelling with the family, you may find the Japanese-Western Combination suite to be a better option than the Family Room because it’s bigger.
- If you don’t fancy the walk to the slopes you can catch the regular shuttle that runs from just outside the hotel.
- You can choose to access Mominoki Hotel by helicopter and even land your own there if you so desire.
SCOUT REVIEW
Hakuba Mominoki Hotel is a fantastic choice for those wanting a decent hotel that’s centrally located in Hakuba, for a reasonable price. With over 40 years’ experience, they offer great service and having been recently refurbished, Mominoki is one of the better accommodation options in Hakuba.
The rooms are simply decorated and offer rooms with western beds as well as Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats and futons. All rooms have capsule-style bathrooms, which are small but comprise all the necessary facilities. We would recommend splurging the extra to get a Premier or Deluxe room for the extra space and excellent views.
Despite the moderate price tag, Mominoki Hotel features some great facilities. There are newly refurbished outdoor and indoor onsens (from natural hot springs) which are separated by gender. In addition to this there’s a ski storage area and a drying room, free Wi-Fi in the rooms and a washer and dryer (available for a charge). Meanwhile, there’s a large lounge area off the side of the lobby that has comfy couches and a log fire. Breakfast is included in the room rate, which features a large selection of buffet-style Japanese and Western dishes. There are two on-site restaurants for you to choose from in the evening or there are a number of bars and restaurants located close to the hotel.
One Mominoki Hotel’s highlights is its position near Happo-One. Scout feels it is one of the best hotels in Habuka in terms of location. For instance, you can walk to the Kokusai ski area at the base of Happo-One in about 5-10 minutes. This area is also well serviced by the ski area shuttle busses as well as the ‘Genki-go’ night bus, if you’re heading out on the town. You can walk down to the Happo One main village area in about 10 minutes.
Mominoki Hotel is situated in a small complex that includes Rhythm Snow Sports (if you need equipment to buy or rent), and Evergreen Outdoor (for backcountry guiding). The hotel also owns the pub next door, which has a pub style menu and is a popular spot in the evenings for the young party crowd. It often has live music.
Who should stay here
Not for the overly fussy traveller, Mominoki Hotel is great for families or groups of friends wanting a decent and well-priced, centrally located hotel in Habuka near Happo-One.
