SCOUT REVIEW
Alpenhof Lodge, located right across from The Village at Mammoth, is a long-time favorite among skiers who love charm and convenience over glitz. Family-owned and operated since the 1970s, it captures that authentic mountain-lodge feel with wood-beamed ceilings, stone fireplaces, and cozy decor that’s more European chalet than corporate resort.
The rooms vary in size and layout, ranging from standard lodge rooms to larger suites with fireplaces and kitchenettes. While the decor leans traditional, everything is well-kept and comfortable, creating a warm retreat after a day on the slopes. The complimentary breakfast is simple but handy, and guests appreciate the on-site parking and easy walk to the gondola — just across the street — which makes getting up Mammoth Mountain incredibly straightforward.
Apres-ski is another highlight here. The Clocktower Cellar downstairs is one of Mammoth’s most beloved bars, famous for its impressive whiskey list, craft beers, and relaxed vibe. Meanwhile, Petra’s Bistro offers refined mountain dining right next door. Between the two, you barely need to leave the property for a great night out.
While Alpenhof Lodge doesn’t have big-hotel amenities like a spa or pool, it makes up for it with atmosphere and personal service. It’s ideal for travelers who value a friendly face at check-in, a roaring fire in the lobby, and easy ski access without the hefty resort price tag.
