SCOUT REVIEW
If you’ve ever seen a photograph of Telluride’s Main Street, you will already know about The New Sheridan Hotel. For nearly 120 years it has been the heart of this historic town – and while the miners might have left many decades ago, today Telluride continues to come alive with local and visiting skiers. The hotel’s bar, in particular, is a happening place for apres.
The New Sheridan Hotel you see today was built in 1895 – the original burnt down in 1884. But that wasn’t the only transformation the hotel has been through – over the years it has been refurbished and remodeled several times. However the one thing that hasn’t changed is the hotel’s classic elegance, which can be seen in all of its (highly comfortable) rooms. Each room oozes with Victorian charm, and most feature either a king or queen bed, so best suited to couples or solo skiers.
As is often the case for older hotels, the rooms and bathrooms are a little on the small size – let’s just call them cozy. But it doesn’t really matter because you won’t be spending too much time in your room – you’ll be too busy tearing it up on the slopes, or enjoying a drink and a bite to eat at one of Telluride’s many bars and restaurants. In fact, two of the town’s most popular places are right downstairs! Chop House has fantastic steaks – make sure to ask about the nightly special which comes with a glass of wine. And the Historic Bar is the most popular watering hole in town. For those who just can't get enough of the mountain views, a sunset cocktail on the rooftop is a must.
After a long day of skiing, you’ll be glad you chose The New Sheridan. As your head hits the Egyptian Cotton pillow in your highly comfortable bed, sleep will come easily – enabling you to wake up refreshed and ready for more.
The New Sheridan is a popular choice for couples when it comes to Telluride lodging, with its unbeatable downtown location, and easy access to the gondola each morning.
