SCOUT REVIEW

Every now and then here at Scout, we debate whether a hotel should be included or not. We always weigh up the positives and negatives carefully to decide whether a hotel should make the list – but sometimes the decision is a tough one. Huntley Lodge at Big Sky is one such hotel – there were some major negatives, however we felt that there were so many really great things going for it that it was worth including.

This lodge was one of the first hotels to be built in Big Sky, and it was part of Chet Huntley’s original vision. As a result it enjoys a great position in the mountain village, just a short walk from the lifts and all the bars and restaurants.

Many of the rooms have great slope-side views looking up at Lone Peak. The rooms are a decent size too and feature an extra seating area as well as a refrigerator and coffee maker.

Huntley Lodge is a full service hotel, which means it comes with a concierge, luggage service, room service and daily housekeeping. Even better, there are some excellent facilities here such as a huge outdoor swimming pool, two hot tubs, a fitness center, saunas and ski storage. There is also a café and restaurants in the hotel. Oh, and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Best of all, it all comes for one of the most decent prices in Big Sky. And when you factor in that kids 10 and under ski free (and can use the kids club for free) it's unbeatable.

So what are the watch outs? For starters the hotel is fairly dated – furnishings aren’t modern (though it’s clean and well maintained). It’s a large hotel, and getting to some rooms can take a while. But our biggest warning is the noise, which travels between the rooms and corridors. (It’s never a great sign when you walk in to find a packet of ear plugs beside the bed).

Considering this, if you are a light sleeper this may not be the hotel for you. But if it’s something you can handle, then for this price Huntley Lodge is certainly worth considering.

Who should stay here

Families who are looking for some of the best value and most convenient accommodation in Big Sky, and who don’t mind a bit of noise.
