Scout loves
- The boutique feel and attention to detail
- Western Queen size beds and spacious en-suite bathrooms
- Beautiful views from the common areas and rooms
- Though not technically ski-in ski-out its just a short walk from the slopes
Scout tips
- The walk from the main street to the lodge is relatively steep and can often be deep snow for the last part. The hotel offers a timed shuttle service to the village and ski school in the evenings and mornings.
- There is no on-site onsen but there is a large onsen-style bath (ofuro) that you can rent for private use
- It may not be the best choice for families with young children
SCOUT REVIEW
As the name suggests Myoko Vista has wonderful views of Akakura Onsen Ski Resort as well as the town from every room. The Australian owners of this lodge recently renovated the hotel from what was pretty much just a shell. In the process they have thought of all the western comforts of home while keeping a few Japanese influences.
The rooms at Myoko Vista are all spacious and have comfortable western style beds or futon, as well as bedding including duvets and pillows. They retained the tatami matting on the floor and have decorative touches that remind you that you are in fact in Japan. The bathrooms are all large by Japanese standards and all have a shower and toilet. The penthouse has a large western style bathtub. Each room also has a balcony. The spacious penthouse would be great for a couple wanting plenty of room and the flexibility of a kitchen, or a small family with 2 young children.
Myoko Vista is also very well located to the ski slopes and in a serene location on the mountain. However, it is quite a distance from the main street and up a long hill with a snowy road. It is a 10-minute walk from the main street. The staff at Myoko Vista overcome this by providing a shuttle services to town if you would like to explore local restaurants.
The helpful, friendly staff cook up a storm each morning and on some evenings they will cook dinner, or can help order in pizza if you don’t feel like heading down to town.
All-in-all, Myoko Vista would be a great choice for those wanting fantastic western service and comforts, stylish comfortable rooms and easy access to the slopes.
Who should stay here
Myoko Vista would suit families (with older children), couples or groups of friends who would enjoy boutique Western style accommodation, and who don’t mind not being right in the village.
Location
Myoko Vista is located a 80m shuffle from the groomed runs, so is perfect for those wanting to get up and go in the mornings. From there you can ski down to the lifts at either Akakura Kanko OR Akakura Onsen ski resorts, and to where the ski school meets, or the staff can shuttle you. At the end of the day it's easy to ski back to the lodge. Myoko Vista is located about a 10-minute walk from the main street, up a relatively steep hill. The staff operate a timed shuttle service ensuring you have easy access to the village in the evenings. Having your own car would aid convenience, however you would have to be very confident driving on steep, snowy roads.
- Short walk to lifts
- Hotel shuttle provided
