  • The hotel is big and has a large resort feel to it.
  • The rooms are chic and stylish, think modern mountain feel throughout.
  • The Chickadee (beginner’s) area can be accessed via the back door of the hotel.

Snowbird exists thanks to the fortunes of one man, Dick Bass, best-known for summiting the highest peaks in each of the seven continents. A pioneer and a true intrepid spirit, Bass was directly responsible for the development of Snowbird – one of Utah’s premier ski resorts (situated in the Little Cottonwood Canyon).

Because Snowbird is situated in a National Forest, real estate development has been limited to only a few buildings. Bass founded the resort in 1971 and much of the building development happened over the following years. Therefore those main buildings have a distinctly 1970s feel to them – think concrete, wood and glass – and they wouldn’t look out of place in a Bond film.

Which brings us to the Cliff Lodge and Spa: the jewel in Snowbird’s crown. Standing nine stories tall and situated at the top of the ski base area, this is the premier hotel in Snowbird. It is giant – with 511 rooms, which makes up half of all the rooms in the entire village. It's a bustling atmosphere throughout, mainly thanks to it's vast range of on-site facilities, including a heated swimming pool and three hot tubs, The Cliff Spa (featuring over 30 treatment and salon services, yoga studio, fitness center, rooftop pool and hot tub), exercise room, resort-wide internet service, room service, concierge and a state-licensed daycare facility. The Aerie Restaurant and Lounge boasts Modern-American gastropub cuisine, focussed on on local, seasonal and organic ingredients, while the Atrium is a top spot for a grab-and-go coffee and pastry for breakfast. The new SeventyOne is a good choice for the family, offering American grill favourites, an open kitchen and a retro vibe.

There is a great range of rooms on offer, from standard hotel rooms to 2 bedroom suites. The updated decor is chic and modern, with a lovely mountain feel throughout and gold accents. Access to the Cliff Spa can be included in the room rate. The entry level rooms are ideal for couples or groups of friends, consisting of 2 queen beds, and either simple hotel amenities. The Deluxe rooms are a little larger, sleeping up to four guests on a king bed and sleeper sofa, full bathroom and wet bar. The one and two bedroom suites are a combination of Deluxe rooms and offer great space for families. There are no cooking facilities in any of the rooms, but with many restaurants on site, you'll have no problems finding a great spot to eat each night. Views vary between rooms, with Mountain View bedroom facing the slopes, and Canyon View bedrooms overlooking the third floor pool and Mt Superior.

Within walking distance to Snowbird’s pedestrian village, The Cliff Lodge is ideal for those wanting to be close to the action and resort facilities. The lodge is home to an on-site ski rental and repair shop and complimentary ski lockers for added convenience.
