SCOUT REVIEW

A haven for backcountry skiers that are attracted to Hakkoda’s rather wild terrain, Sanso Lodge is a small Japanese style lodge that is situated near the base of the Hakkoda ropeway station.

The lodge has eight rooms and two dorms, one for men and another for women. Six of the rooms are Japanese Style Rooms which features tatami mats, and most have their own shower and toilets. There are two western style rooms with western mattresses, one of which does not have its own toilet. Most of the rooms have great views of the mountains. The rooms are very basic but if you are in Hakkoda for the skiing experience, and all you want is a mattress or a futon and don’t care about the rest, then Sansou Lodge is for you.

The rate includes a simple breakfast and dinner in the attached restaurant, so it is a pretty good deal. They do bake their own pastries during the weekend, so make sure you get those! The lodge does not have that much in terms of facilities and they do not have an onsen but it has a hot bath which you can enjoy. The lodge also offers daily or half-day backcountry guided tours.

PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE UNABLE TO TAKE BOOKINGS FOR SANSO LODGE. This profile remains here as guidance only.
