Scout loves

  • The spectacular views from the Lake View villas.
  • The location, which offers a peaceful escape from busy Queenstown.
  • Rooms come with luxurious finishes & appliances.
  • The kitchens and living areas are huge.
  • Management is exceptionally friendly and helpful.
  • You can even enjoy the view while you’re having a bath.

Scout tips

  • It’s technically possible to walk to town, but it would take you about 25 minutes down a hill and along the lake. It would be more convenient to hire a car (especially since every villa has its own garage).
  • The villas all have common lawn areas extending from the living rooms.
  • The property will happily provide anything required for babies (such as cots, high chairs, fire guards and stair guards) for no extra fee.
  • Some of the Lake View villas do have tennis courts in the view, but they don’t obstruct too much.

Platinum Queenstown is the type of place where it’s easy to settle in but very hard to leave. Consisting of 36 luxury villas, this is one of those places that consistently manages to exceed expectations.

Until the end of 2013 the property was under the management of the Heritage Hotel (which is across the road). When the owners split from the hotel they inserted their own management team and made some cosmetic upgrades to the villas. It seems to have been the right move.

As you arrive you can expect a super friendly welcome from managers Adrian and Alana, who will show you to your villa. You’ll notice that the furnishing style is more conservative luxury than city modern, but we found it to be incredibly homely and comfortable. At 135sqm the 3 bedroom villas are spacious, particularly in the main bedroom and the living area.

The living areas all come with comfy couches, gas fireplaces, flat screen TVs, surround sound stereos and iPod docks. French doors open onto your own terrace that leads to a communal lawn area. If you covet privacy you might find this uncomfortable, since other guests can walk around in front of your villa. But it may not be such a problem in winter when everyone is more likely to be snuggled in front of their fireplace.

All villas have the same bedding configuration that consists of one king bed, one queen and two singles. (Unfortunately this cannot be changed). The main bedroom has a lovely ensuite with a bathtub overlooking the view.

The property’s slightly out-of-town location comes with huge benefits – specifically, the spectacular views and the peace and quiet. Even the Mountain View townhomes have mountain views, lake glimpses and fir tree forest outlooks that almost make you feel like you’re in the European Alps. But it’s the Lake View villas that have that ‘wow’ factor – with uninterrupted lake and mountain views which extend above a grass lawn towards The Remarkables without a single other building in sight.

If you want to be able to easily walk to everything in town, this may not be the place for you. But for everyone else, we think it’s definitely worth a look. And at this price it’s comparable (if not cheaper) to other apartments in town that have nowhere near the same levels of luxury, spaciousness, peace and quiet that are offered here – not to mention the views.
