Scout loves

  • This is one of the best-located hotels in Whistler Village – right by the base of both mountains.
  • The fantastic slope-side views will get you excited for the day ahead.
  • The saltwater pool and hot tubs overlook the slopes and the village below.
  • All rooms have kitchen facilities and decent-sized living areas.
  • The hotel is home to one of Whistler’s best apres venues – the Dubh Linn Gate (an Irish pub).
  • All rooms feature a balcony and fireplace.

Scout tips

  • With this location there is no need for a car, which will help you avoid the extra costs of self/valet parking.
  • The studio rooms come with a Murphy bed. But the mattress is exactly the same as the regular beds.
  • Some of the ‘lower floor’ category rooms have no views, the second floor rooms often look onto woody areas (which can be private and peaceful).
  • Windows are all double glazed which blocks out most of the resort noise.
  • Ski rentals are conveniently located on-site.

SCOUT REVIEW

The most common request in any ski hotel is a room with slope-side or mountain views. Finding a hotel that’s close to the lifts is the next requirement. And finally, it’s good to find a hotel that’s also close to all the apres action. It’s not easy to find a hotel that satisfies all three of these requirements, which is why we were so impressed by The Pan Pacific – which offers convenient access to the slopes and village, as well as some of the best views in Whistler.

Not that The Pan Pacific is the only hotel in Whistler that ticks these boxes (there are several others that would classify as a close second), but there’s definitely a lot to like. Significantly, it’s home to the Dubh Linn Gate Irish pub, which is one of Whistler’s most popular apres hangouts – if you’ve skied Whistler before you’ve no doubt already had a drink here. It’s located right at the bottom of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, and every afternoon this place is thriving with skiers mulling over the day’s turns.

As for the views, if you stay in one of the mountain view rooms, you won’t be disappointed. (They do command a premium, but it’s worth it). The slopes are about as in-your-face as you can get, and are perfect for watching skiers come down the mountain. The pool and hot tub also share the same view, so it’s not surprising that non-guests try to sneak their way up. If you would prefer a more peaceful and relaxing view, choose an upper level room for views of Rainbow and Blackcomb mountains, or a room on a lower floor with glimpses of mountains or wooded views.

As for the décor, the rooms at the Pan Pacific are decorated in a simple, homely style – they’re nothing too fancy or luxurious, but they do have spacious living areas, as well as a fireplace, balcony, and a full kitchen. All windows are double glazed which helps reduce the resort base area noise (and après partygoers) well into the evening. Studio rooms are perfect for small families or couples, while the one bedroom and two bedroom options offer a great range of bedding options to suit most families. All two bedroom suites are located at the ends of the building with the corners offering a bit more space and great views.

All things considered, you really can’t go wrong with Pan Pacific Mountainside.
