Scout loves

  • Great location for the avid skier, close to the Funival lift.
  • The hotel is a distance from the rest of the resort, which makes it quiet and peaceful, away from Val d'Isère's bars and party-goers.
  • We find that La Toviere is one of the better three star hotels in the valley, and the perfectly comfortable place to stay for those wanting to avoid Val d'Isère's steep prices.

Scout tips

  • Even though some rooms face the road, all the rooms in this hotel are fairly quiet because it's in a more peaceful location, with no bars and not many people walking around on the streets.
  • Get a Superior room on the third floor where you can have exposed beam ceilings and lots of bright big windows. There's also a Classic room on the third floor.
  • Children's half board supplement is 14 Euros, babies under four years eat for free. Regular half board is without drinks.
  • Baby cots are only available for the Superior room.
  • There's the option between double or twin beds in the Classic rooms.

SCOUT REVIEW

Scout loves La Tovier hotel, as do many guests of Val d'Isère. It is located in the hamlet of La Daille, which means it's not quite in the Val d'Isère village. Yet it enjoys a fantastic location opposite the lifts in the La Daille area, one of the bases of the Val d'Isère ski area. The Funival cable car is just across the road from this hotel, which makes it very convenient to get on the slopes quickly. If you want to go out to the main village of Val d'Isère, it's just a short bus ride away.

This hotel has a great sense of history, built in 1960 by an old Val d'Isère family. The original owners decided to rent out the chalet years ago to an English chalet company, where typically, it became a little run down. In 2012, the younger generation of the same family bought it from their grandparents and completely rebuilt the hotel inside and out. And they did a great job – La Tovier is modern, relaxed and comfortable. The style of the interiors is all very Scandinavian, lots of wood, white, and natural stones in the bathrooms. It feels comfortable – almost luxurious without being overdone or opulent.

There are 29 rooms in this hotel that range from a Classic rooms right through to Family rooms, which sleeps four people, with two kids in bunk beds. All rooms have balconies. Classic rooms are small at 18 m2, with either a bath or shower. Superior rooms are 27 m2, accommodates 2 to 3 guests, with bath and shower, and a balcony. The Family room is 30 m2, good for 4 guests, with bunk beds for children, bath and balcony. The rooms are comfortable with plenty of storage, though sparsely furnished. Rooms are fitted with the latest electronic devices, a mini bar, a safe, and electric kettle for tea and hot drinks. Some rooms have views of the back, including of a chalet that as part of the property. Rooms at the front may get a bit of noise from the main road that runs in front of the hotel but they enjoy great views of the mountains and ski slopes.

Not surprisingly for a small, family run hotel, La Toviere boasts friendly efficient service. There's a little on-site sports shop where you can rent or buy some ski essentials. There's also a steam room and sauna in the basement of the hotel. The relaxed restaurant serves decent, but fairly simple alpine dishes. Breakfast consists of hot and cold breakfast buffet. There’s also a lounge bar with a fireplace and couches to get cozy.

Hotel La Tovier is certainly good value for any property in Val d’Iser, and although it’s not located in the center, you certainly won't feel too isolated here.

Who should stay here

This hotel is great for families, a group of friends, and couples. Those who want a stylish hotel but don't want to pay for a lot of five star features.
