Scout loves

  • Service is friendly and personal.
  • Rooms are charmingly decorated.
  • A great Italian restaurant, Mazzolas, is located downstairs.

Scout tips

  • The rooms and bathrooms are tiny. Twin rooms have two twin beds (as opposed to full or queen size)
  • A resort fee (or “reservation fee”) of 6.5% is charged by the hotel on Scout checkout, along with the lodging sales tax.
  • Some rooms can be noisy with some late-night town noise.
  • There is no private hotel shuttle, however the free city bus leaves for the ski area every 10 minutes, from just across the road.
  • There are no views from any of the rooms. Most look out onto parking lots or other walls.

‘Once is never enough’ is what they say in Steamboat Springs – which means that if you stay here once, it’s highly likely you’ll return! First-time visitors usually book themselves accommodation as close to the slopes as possible (i.e. in the mountain village). But the second time around, a lot of people opt instead to stay in the downtown area because that’s where all the fun restaurants and bars are located. Plus, it’s easy enough to commute to the slopes each day on the town’s free public shuttle.

However, there are limited accommodation options in the downtown area of Steamboat Springs (not including the plethora of cheap chain motels on the outskirts of town). If you’re looking for a decent place to stay, Scout’s choice is Hotel Bristol.

Steeped in history, Hotel Bristol was built in 1948. People obviously needed less room back then because the hotel rooms are all pretty small. But they’ve been decorated thoughtfully to create a cute antique feel – one could easily describe this hotel as ‘quaint’. Historic black and white photos line the walls, providing a great introduction to what Steamboat life was like back in the day. And don’t forget to check out the old public telephone in the lobby!

An indoor hot tub provides an outlook over the main street of town, which is a great place to soak your muscles after a day’s skiing. There are also a few nice lounge areas provided for guests, should you feel a little cramped in your room.

Who should stay here

Hotel Bristol would suit those on a budget who are looking for a great place to stay in downtown Steamboat Springs. It is best suited to shorter stays because the rooms are quite small.
