Scout loves

  • While it’s not truly ski-in ski-out, you can’t get much closer to the Heavenly Gondola than this. It goes from right outside the door
  • The facilities are fantastic for families
  • There are no resort fees and Wi-Fi is free
  • The on-site restaurant, Fire and Ice, is popular (and for many reasons why!).

Scout tips

  • All studios and villas include their own washers and dryers. For guest rooms there are complimentary washer and dryers on each floor
  • Underground Valet Parking is available for a fee, however you can always park in Hurrah’s Casino (which is close by) for free
  • The hotel is big – with 470 rooms in total. Don’t expect a highly personalized experience
  • There is no room service (in-room dining) for any of the rooms or condos

SCOUT REVIEW

Marriott’s Grand Residence Club is about as convenient as it gets for South Lake Tahoe and the Heavenly Mountain Resort. Heavenly’s gondola is literally steps from the back door of the property, while the restaurants, bars and shops of the village are on your doorstep. For those who fancy a bit of a gamble there are several casinos within walking distance too. The resort shuttle service leaves from the transit area right next door so you can access amenities that are further afield.

The Grand Residences by Marriott are in a separate building to Timber Lodge, where most of the activities are held (residence guests can also join in). It has its own pool, hot tub and fitness center, and has a slightly more exclusive feel than the giant Timber Lodge.

The studios are on the small side, but the condos are large – starting at 650 square feet for a one bedroom. The difference between the one bedroom ‘villa’ and ‘suite’ is that the suite is slightly larger and has a second bathroom. All residence units feature well-equipped kitchens, dining areas, lounges and comfortable bedrooms. The rooms are simple but stylish, and most offer a balcony and a fireplace to cosy up around.

The Grand Residences are a great choice for groups and families seeking additional luxuries. The pool and hot tub area is great for kids, as is the Cub House and Den. The Cub House is open from 9am to 9pm and includes supervised activities for kids aged 4-12 (for a fee). Teens, meanwhile, will enjoy the (unsupervised) Den which includes video games, TVs, computers and board games.

There’s also plenty for parents to enjoy while staying at The Grand Residences, such as the Retreat – where various activities such as wine, beer and chocolate tastings are organised and a number of scheduled activities that happen each day and which vary by the season (some free, some for a fee). And to work off any indulges, there are daily fitness classes in the gym for all guests to enjoy.

All of these amenities at The Grand Residences combine to create a feel that’s more like a big vacation resort than a ski resort. The Grand Residences are a fantastic lodging option for those seeking a little luxury to their Heavenly ski vacation, with an unbeatable slopeside location.

Who should stay here

The Grand Residences by Marriott would suit families and couples who are looking for a slightly upscale condo experience in the heart of Heavenly resort. It offers a range of scheduled activities for adults and families.
