Scout loves

  • Traditional Bavarian charm in the heart of Teton Village.
  • The friendly, personalized service.
  • If you want to meet a few of the local ski instructors, head to the bar during apres hour – it’s their favorite hangout.
  • Strictly speaking, the hotel cannot be classified as ski-in ski-out, but it’s an easy ski-in and is the closest hotel to the tram building.
  • The house dogs, Bea & Lucy, are part of the welcoming committee.

Scout tips

  • Breakfast daily is included.
  • Parking is free in the common lot.
  • The building is old so some of the rooms are on the small side. Those on the top floor have low ceilings and those in the ‘new’ wing (built in 1976) are not very noise resistant.
  • The Alpine Rooms have a fireplace, which is a great way to cosy up at the end of the day.

Alpenhof was built in 1965 by a Swiss-German couple who wanted to create a family-friendly European ski chalet in Jackson Hole. As such this place oozes ‘Gemutlichkeit’ – a German word that loosely translates as ‘cozy, gentle, warm and welcoming’.

The Alpenhof was one of the first hotels to be built in Teton Village, so it’s rich with history. In fact, it is part of the Historic Hotels of America trust. And although today it has new owners, that down-to-earth atmosphere can still be felt and appreciated the moment you set foot in the lobby. Think: pretty paintings of flowers, Swiss cowbells, wooden furniture and loft-style rooms. And in keeping with the theme, there is also a fine dining restaurant attached to the hotel called the Alpenrose – serving up the best cheese fondues this side of Switzerland. The Alpenhof Bistro is also an incredibly popular place, with delicious beers on tap. It’s fantastic for apres and is the favorite drinking hole for the local ski instructors – most of whom get their own personal beer jug to keep behind the bar.

The hotel itself is simple – it’s not for those looking for 5 star luxury, enormous rooms and large bathtubs. But it is however a wonderful place to call home for a while. The entry-level Gable rooms are warm and cosy with a true Alpine loft feel, and offer a queen or two double beds. Ideal for couples and solo skiers on a budget. The Dolomite and Bavarian rooms are slightly larger, and offer space and privacy for a romantic ski vacation or family getaway. If you're seeking rooms with a balcony, the Tyrolean rooms are the best option, and offer good privacy as they're surrounded by towering pine trees, while for the hopeless romantic the Fireplace Alpine Rooms provide the perfect opportunity for a cosy evening by the crackling fire. The Alpenhof is perfect for small families, with the family suite boasting two bedrooms with one or two queen beds, and a larger living area suited up to 5 people. Many of the rooms are basic yet comfortable, however, for those seeking a little more luxury, the Jungfrau Junior Suite oozes with German charm with detailed hand carved ceiling beams, wood burning fireplace, and well appointed bathroom. Whatever room you choose, the Alpenhof is a perfect lodging option for a cosy Jackson Hole ski vacation.

Best of all, a complimentary breakfast is provided daily, offering a good selection of pastries, bagels, fresh fruit and hot items to enjoy on a lazy morning or for a quick grab-and-go on a powder day.

The Alpenhof's location at the base of the village is fantastic – the tram building, ticket office, gondola, ski school and bus terminal are all just steps away. And in the afternoons you can pretty much ski right up to the front door of the hotel. Although it doesn't boast the amenties of a full service hotel, the Alpenhof does feature an outdoor hot tub, swimming pool, on-site masage, and a ski shop.

The Alpenhof is a perfect ski package choice for families, couples, and solo skiers who seek cosy lodging and warm hospitality in an unbeatable Teton Village location.
